Trauma: Similar to physical injuries that lead to a wound, psychologically effective injuries can also lead to mental wounds. These are often caused by violence, the most severe is the impact of so-called man made disasters. In the immediate consequence of the event, the affected persons feel themselves helpless and completely surrendered, the reaction is also called speechless horror. The psychotraumatology (science of the consequences of traumatic stress) deals with the effects, the resistance, the recovery and the psychotherapeutic possibilities for action.
