The effectiveness of EMDR has been demonstrated by numerous scientific studies. The results of the research show: After the treatment of a simple posttraumatic stress disorder with EMDR, 80 per cent of the patients feel relieved - even after very few sessions. A central element of the EMDR treatment is the post-processing of the stressful memory using bilateral stimulation: The patient follows the therapist's fingers with her eyes as she moves her hand alternately to the right and left. This stimulation helps the brain activate its own healing and integrating powers and process the stressful memories.
